Karl Ojanpa is a musician and sound designer based in Pittsburgh, PA. With over 15 years of experience, his musical projects have spanned genres from surf rock to synthwave to dungeonsynth. He currently plays guitar and synth as one half of the post-punk duo, Memory Front, who are currently writing & recording their EP on 4 track tape machines, titled, Wilderness. 

 

His sonic palette includes complex sampled programs, analog synthesizers, drum machines, guitar, a slew of FX and custom built circuits, and even ‘90s video game trackers! He draws inspiration from 70's krautrock bands such as Can, electronic pioneers like Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream, the echoey guitar pop of The Cure, distorted feedback laden psychedelia of the Smashing Pumpkins and the infectious melodic mastery of Depeche Mode.

Karl has composed music for several independent short films, retro video games released by Megacat Studios and is currently working on music and sound for the independent feature length film, Batshit.

 

When he’s not in his home studio, you can find him learning new hand-tool woodworking techniques, experimenting with his 3D printer, repairing old audio equipment, tuning up his guitars or hiking in the woods taking photos and recording the sounds of nature.
